Seven members of DB police have been arrested with Tk 1.7 million of ransoms by the Bangladesh Army from Teknaf. Superintendent of Police Dr.AKM Iqbal Hossain has suspended those DB personnels at 2pm on Wednesday.This action has been taken against them after red-handed by the army.
Earlier, the Superintendent of Police said. AKM Iqbal Hossain and Additional Superintendent of Police Afrazul Haque Tutul have freed DB officials from army with the assurance of taking departmental action against them.
The suspended DB cops are – SI Abul Kalam Azad, SI Moniruzzaman, ASI Mohammad Firuz, ASI Mustafa Kamal, ASI Alauddin, Constable Mostafa Azam and Constable Mohammad Al Amin.
The victim was identified as abdul Gafur and brother of the councilor Moniruzzaman under Teknaf municipalty.He went to Coxsbazar to deposit income tax return on tuesday.in the meantime, DB team had abducted him at gun point and demanded 1crore Taka as ransom otherwise threatened to kill in the name of cross-fire.eventually,DB team agreed to release him worth Tk.1.7 million.
On the basis of secret information, the microbus of DB police was stopped by the army at lombari check point under marine drive area of Teknaf on 4am wednesday.One sub-inspector has fled from the scene suddenly.other members were detained with Tk.1.7million by army team.
Major Nazim Ahmed who is also in-charge of Sabrang Nayapara Relief Station in Teknaf has confirmed the incident and said, Cox’s Bazar police Super and additional police super came to the camp and promised to take administrative action against the detainees.
Cox’s Bazar district police spokesman and additional superintendent of police Afrozul Haque Tutul said, the two SI, three ASI and two constables have been suspended and departmental measures are being taken against them.
